Happy Third Birthday, Jack and Sophie!

Today, January 23rd is the third birthday for our sweet puppies, actually, now 21 and officially grown, in 'dog years'. We can't believe they are that old. We had a small party this morning, they split a blueberry pancake and sausage with three candles for their cake.

And Smoky had to be involved as well. She wished them all the best and sang 'Happy Birthday' with us. She'll be expecting a big party herself.

We are trying to get them more exercise, now that they are mature, and not growing leaps and bounds, instead putting on the weight. Our neighbor here keeps saying how 'healthy' they are, with a good bit of sarcasm, you might note. We have devised a sneaky way to get them more exercise. We let them outside, not putting them in their yard but letting them roam for a few minutes, just long enough to get a ways away from the house. Then we call them back. They come running, with ears flying, and great big smiles on their faces. We give them lots of praise, a small treat and let them go back to their roaming. And call them back! And let them go... You get the picture. They get lots of running they would not get otherwise. I think Jack has lost some weight, and hope Sophie has as well. She still favors her right leg/shoulder, limping more some days than others. So even though she loves to run, more so than Jack, she is not the first to show up when I whistle. But Jack has such long legs, he really flies!

It has been too cool or rainy or snowy lately for me to get out and walk with them so I had to think of something. And they are sleeping all through the night now, since they are pretty tired from all the running. heh
