So now we are back in Fredericksburg.

We had a nice trip from my mom's and are really happy to be back. The weather is lovely, warm and clear. We drove into Fredericksburg to pick up some groceries and keep being reminded how much we like the place. The eagle here was carved from a tree that died, but they didn't want to just pull it up.
On the way to the house, we saw this cow and her calf. The cow wouldn't let the calf nurse, her bag really looked red. Poor little calf seemed intent and Hungry!

At Gillespie County Airport, where there is a great hotel, The Hangar Hotel and Diner, we saw this B25. There was a Gooney Bird parked at the end of the runway, Bud said it has been there since his July trip, and the other in front of Joe Fritz's hangar.

However, almost the coolest thing ever, we got to meet David Lee 'Tex' Hill and his wife Mazie. We had dinner with them and our friends, Bill and Lee. I'm sure everyone knows about his exploits as a Flying Tiger in the AVG in China at the beginning of WWII. Bud had a wonderful time, asking lots of questions, and I was able to talk with Mazie. She is a wonderful person, so warm and personable, I was entirely charmed. We were in San Antonio, and as dinner ran after 10PM, she insisted that we stay the night with them. Except for the fact that we had the poopers and Smokey to take care of, it would have been such an honor. What a wonderful evening. And she called us a couple of days later, leaving a sweet message on our answering machine. I still haven't erased it.
